Paperbacks, Ebooks, or Audio: Your Choice

Welcome back to Lamon Reviews. As you may know I occasionally participate in the Long and Short Wednesday Weekly Challenge. This week the topic is paperback, ebook, or audio?

Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.”

Jim Rohn

Well, firstly, I am very proud of myself for what I have accomplished.I have listened to the most novels this year. I am on nuber 23 with audiobooks, 0 with paperbacks, 1 with hardback, and 4 with ebooks. While not a large number of books, it is a wonderful increase for me.

So, which do I enjoy most?

Although a majority of the books I have and continue to read and review are ebooks, this is mainly because of logistics. It is so much easier to use and store digital books. I have several apps to read digital books, from Kindle to Overdrive to Readera. The portability of it is also a wonderous advantage. I do think I use my imagination much more when I read an ebook or physical book.

While I love ebooks, as you can tell, audiobooks have taken the number one spot for me. I can do another task as I listen to an author or audio actor tell me a story. I can get through an audiobook much quicker than an Ebook. For me, it is so similar to listening and following a podcast. It feels interactive to me and I think I remember it more when it is read to me.

Paperbacks and hardback books are a rarity for me. There is a cost factor and the question of where would I keep them. If I had more room I know I would have more. I happily own a total of 12 physical books.

Another thing that hinders my physical book reading is – I love food- and I often read and snack at the same time. I have absolutely soiled a book with potato chip oil from my fingers. That seems so sacrilegious. I would be happy if physical books would be the same as when we first purchase them. I like new book smell!

You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”

Ray Bradbury

I hope you enjoyed todays post. Let me know what you think in the comments below. Which is your favorite form for reading: ebook, paperback, or audiobook? Tell me in the comments.

And As Always…

Go forth, dear readers, support your favorite indie authors and encourage reading and literacy.
