~Writing for a Cause ~

Animals have always held a special place in my heart! I’ve always been fascinated with animals, and I don’t recall a time in my youth or adult life that I didn’t have a pet.

I rescued my first kitten, Boots, from under an old appliance in a barn when I was in 4-H. My mom was not happy! We already had two Beagles and a parakeet. Having pets as a child taught me not only about responsibility, but even more importantly, they taught me about compassion, empathy and unconditional love!

As a mom, teacher and author, it brings me such JOY to share my love of animals through literature! Animal books, both fiction and nonfiction, help children to explore the animal world and learn how truly amazing and important they are in our lives. They can help children foster a love and respect for all animals, including their own pets.

Children especially enjoy fun animal stories! I started writing my Cindi the Teenie Chiweenie series to delight and ignite children’s curiosity. They read how a little pup experiences similar situations or obstacles they may face and how she solves them.

Cindi’s Chocolate Valentine is an especially SPECIAL book because it features 17 pets that were chosen as winners in our Cindi Features a New Friend contest last summer. As you can imagine, their ‘people families’ are beyond excited about their pets being part of the story. We had over 750 pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, hedgehogs, and even a chicken, goat, donkey and monkey enter the contest!

More about my books:
My Children’s books include,

  • Kevin Can
  • Kevin is a Smart Cookie
  • Cindi the Teenie Chiweenie
  • Cindi and Sparkles Howl-oween Ghoulfriends

  • Cindi’s Chocolate Valentine.

My Cindi series was inspired by my friend, Joan Yankey’s, Chiweenie. Joan and I co-wrote my first book, Justice and Honor for My Sister: The Story of Margie Grey.

I would also like to mention that 18% of my Cindi series book sale proceeds is donated to animal rescue and shelter organizations.
