…Arnold Weisz: A Jewish patent lawyer, he is fired from his partnership when anti-Jewish laws were introduced in Germany in 1935. He goes into hiding from the Nazis into an apartment building’s attic, with his wife, mother-in-law, son, and twin daughters. His father-in-law Alexander Grossman a haberdasher is killed by the Nazis on Krstallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) in 1938. All of the above characters are creations of my imagination and were developed after meticulous research into the time period they lived in. Below are Bruno Schmidt’s partially burnt SS Nazi Party card and his SS dog tag. These were items I bought at a flea market in Budapest and made them fit the story…
